About Alticom

Alticom, a company of Cellnex, owns 24 high media towers and 6 lower masts. Together, these towers and masts form an important part of the Dutch broadcasting and telecommunications infrastructure. In these towers and masts, Alticom leases space and provides several additional services, such as supplying power and cooling systems to all telecommunications and broadcasting operators in the Netherlands.

Alticom’s data centres

Due to the digitalization of radio and television and the growing use of satellite and fiber optic connections, much of the analog equipment in the towers became obsolete and was removed. The space that was thus created in the towers was the perfect building platform for data centres. In 2009, Alticom therefore started offering data centres housing services. Alticom Datacentres offers housing services including energy supply, emergency power and no-break facilities, excellent connectivity, high continuity and a high degree of security.

Broadcasting and telecom

Alticom provides colocation services to broadcasting and telecom network providers. They can lease space for their antennas in the mast or on the roof of the towers. The corresponding transmission equipment is set up in the tower. Alticom provides the related services, such as power (if necessary including emergency power and no-break facilities), access and cooling systems.

Transmitting and receiving

Alticom’s media towers are used for a multitude of applications. The towers feature antennas for, for instance, digital TV (Digitenne), analog FM and digital radio (DAB). Antennas for the mobile telecommunication services GSM, UMTS and the future LTE (800 MHz) can also be found in Alticom’s towers and masts, though.

Corporate social responsibility

Alticom takes its responsibility when it comes to the environment. That’s not just words; we practice what we preach. That’s why we invest in sustainable technologies and use 100% green energy. We are also very aware of the social impact we have as a company. As part of the Heppie View tour, we regularly open our towers to the public. All the profits go to the Heppie foundation. This foundation organizes group holidays for children that can use a little extra attention, for instance, because their family lacks the funds to go on holiday or because at home, these children are often overshadowed by an ill sibling.

In addition to this, we cooperate in putting up nest boxes for peregrine falcons at several locations. This allows this rare bird to roost without being disturbed.

Part of Cellnex Telecom

In the last few years, Cellnex Telecom has rapidly established itself as the leading independent provider of wireless telecommunications infrastructure in Europe, with a total of approximately 28,000 sites. Among other things, Cellnex leases sites to telecom operators, provides state-of-the-art audiovisual services to regional and local broadcasting companies, develops solutions in the field of the ‘smart city’ and offers, among others, Distributed Antenna Systems. Cellnex Telecom is active in Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands, the Shere Masts and Towerlink were already part of Cellnex. In September of 2017, Alticom too was acquired by Cellnex. Thanks to this acquisition, Cellnex currently owns 24 high media towers and more than 780 telecommunication masts in the Netherlands. The services provided range from mast colocation services to data centres housing facilities.

History of Alticom

In 2007, Alticom (‘Alti’ from ‘altitude’ and ‘com’ from ‘communication’) is born. In that year, KPN sold the towers in its possession to the French firm TDF. Alticom’s shares passed to Infracapital Partners LP in 2011. And Alticom has been a part of Cellnex Telefom since September 2017.
